Welcome to Balfour Winery

“One singular bottle of sparkling wine has twenty million bubbles.”

A bit about us

Balfour first came to prominence when Balfour Brut Rosé, made from the first harvest in 2004, won a trophy medal at the International Wine Challenge in 2007. This seismic event (the first time an English wine had won a trophy in this competition) put Balfour Winery on the wine map.

An exciting journey to create England’s finest wines had begun.

Over the following years, co-founders Richard and Leslie Balfour-Lynn formed a team of viticultural and winemaking experts who assisted them in creating a state-of-the-art Winery and tasting room on Hush Heath Estate, which opened in 2018. Balfour Winery is now an ever-growing tourist and visitor attraction.

Where we are now

This past October, our estate team worked tirelessly to bring in our harvest, so that the winemakers could begin crafting this year’s wines.

Now that the grapes are safely in tank, the winery are busy blending their new wines and disgorging the previous years’ wines that are ready for sale.

Speaking about the 2021 harvest, our Head Winemaker Fergus says, “a tricky growing season and a late harvest are usually indicators of a poor year. However, 2021 is actually *say it quietly* looking pretty good. Whilst the juices in tank aren’t the sweetest we’ve ever seen, they certainly shouldn’t be discounted. The flavour profile is very good. The bases in the tank taste delicious, and on the whole, we are excited to work with them. It’s not as easy as 2020 but it’s certainly not a lost cause.”

We are looking forward to the 2021 wines when they start to come out next year.

Stay tuned.
