Introducing Nature’s Perfect Pairing; Nannette’s Rosé

This summer, we want to help reintroduce wildflower meadows to parts of the UK, by supporting local wildlife charities through sales of Nannette’s Rosé – one of England’s finest pinks.

The Plight of UK’s Wildflower Meadows

It’s a shocking statistic: since the 1930s, the UK has lost a staggering 97% of its wildflower meadows. This loss has had a domino effect on biodiversity, impacting everything from insects that play a crucial role in our ecosystem to the overall health of our soils. These changes affect agriculture and viticulture, impacting vineyards like ours at Balfour.

Balfour’s Commitment to Rewilding

As one of the founding members of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain, Balfour has long been committed to environmental stewardship. Over the years, we have dedicated swathes of our land to rewilding projects. This includes reestablishing over 90 acres of wildflower meadows originally lost during the Second World War.

Every Bottle Helps

With the launch of our “Perfect Pairing” campaign, we’re taking our commitment to the next level. For every bottle of our flagship still pink, Nannette’s Rosé, sold across all channels, we will make a donation to the Kent Wildlife Trust. These funds will support their vital work in rewilding areas across the South East of England.

Bringing Nature to Our Spaces

The campaign, kicking off in May, will transform our spaces into a celebration of flora. Expect to see huge floral displays at our winery, Balfour’s ten pubs, and selected on-trade customers’ venues. We’re also excited to introduce our Nannette branded at-home rewilding kits, designed to help spread wildflowers further and bring the beauty of nature into your home.

A Word from Our Chief Commercial Officer

Adam Williams, our Chief Commercial Officer, shares his vision for the campaign: “Rewilding has been a part of Balfour’s story since 2002, when our co-founder Leslie Balfour began rewilding our estate. We believe that wine is best enjoyed in the great outdoors, and what better way to enhance this experience than by contributing to the health of our landscapes. The ‘Perfect Pairing’ of wine and nature not only enriches the wine-drinking experience but also helps us do more for our environment.”

The Future of English Rosé

Adam believes that English still rosé is on the cusp of something special. “Our Nannette’s Rosé has been gaining momentum over the years. It sells out every vintage, and customer perception is overwhelmingly positive. We believe that English Pink will be a significant story for the industry in the coming years, and it’s important that this rise is underpinned by our ethos of sustainability, quality, and accessibility.”

Join Us for a Summer to Remember

In addition to our ongoing campaign, we invite you to our upcoming rewilding festival, “Woodland in the Winery,” this summer at our estate. This unique event will feature a dozen living trees brought into our visitor centre and a floral display crafted by Chelsea Flower Show-winning florist Louise Roots. We expect thousands of visitors and hope you’ll be among them.

At Balfour Winery, every glass of wine is a toast to a greener future. Join us in our efforts to rewild Britain, one sip at a time. Thank you for supporting sustainable winemaking and helping us nurture our natural heritage.
